Bama - v - North Texas 9/19/09

The Theme for the weekend was RAIN: Tim, Tanya, Jonathan, Dottee and Mollee left for Tuscaloosa on Friday afternoon. The trip included RAIN! Picking up the RV in Cottondale was no problem and it wasn't raining but dark clouds were gathering. We were turning into Coleman Coliseum’s parking lot and the flood began. It rained and it rained and it rained. Tanya was trapped in car and Tim and Jonathan in the RV. We do not have an umbrella or rain jackets. Ivan was traveling through the rain on his way to T-town. Ivan arrives, found a parking space a couple blocks away and walked in the POURING RAIN to the RV lot. Finally, it let up enough for us to straighten the RV in our parking space, unpack the car, level the RV and let out the slides. Then it was off to Mugshots to meet Ninette, Skip, Nicolette and Sara for dinner. Good friends and good food. We couldn't have asked for a better Friday night. Ok, no rain, but that that would be our only request. The rain continued. Off to Publix's for our weekly shopping trip. Why we are never chosen as the Publix's tailgaters of the week, I will NEVER understand. Our next stop was Twice the Ice. We should get a discount because we buy so much ice during football season. Finally, back at the RV, we complete the unloading process while it is RAINING and RAINING. Tim begins to set up the satellite. We notice that the RV ceiling is wet. The RV roof is leaking. There must be hail damage from the hail storm in February. An hour later, Tim gives up on the satellite and we call it a night. Surly, the rain will be gone by Saturday morning and we can set up the satellite. And Tim can call the insurance agent. Ivan has a new bed. Hopefully, this one will not go flat during the night.

Saturday morning began early because of the early kickoff time of 11:20. Tim once again begins the process of setting up the satellite. It is STILL RAINING! It is POURING. Ivan decides to go home and skip the game because of the rain. He leaves. It is still raining. Other RVers are helping Tim with the satellite. Big ballgame day and we need the satellite. Tanya picks up breakfast. It’s still raining. James and Leah arrive. James begins to assist with the satellite situation. Nicolette and Sara arrive. It is STILL RAINING and Tim is still working on the satellite. Ivan returns. He hydroplaned through a red light and Pattie called him and told him the weather was clearing in T-town but too horrible to drive to Cedartown. Yea, Ivan’s back. It is STILL RAINING and Tim is still working on the satellite. Some tools borrowed from fellow RVers and the satellite is fixed. YEA for Tim. Gameday is on ESPN and we can now watch! WHOOOOO! Steve, Amy, and Isabella arrive. It is STILL RAINING! The gang sets up the Bama Easy up and sets up the TV outside. Whew, finally, everything is ready. Yea, the rain has stopped. Everyone carries a poncho to the game. Tim and Tanya did not ride bikes to the game because of the weather. The game was terrific if you are a Bama Fan. Bama has a for real quarterback. Greg McElroy is fantastic. If he stays healthy, he will own all the quarterback records at Alabama. Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, and Terry Grant are amazing. Tim left the game at half time to go back to the RV to make Timz Dogz. Jonathan left at the beginning of the 4th quarter and Ivan left during the 4th quarter. Tanya stayed to the end and walked back with James, Leah, Amy and Isabella. Steve left during the 1st quarter because of the heat. It didn’t rain during the game. Tim had to take the bike to Publix because he couldn’t find the kraut for the Timz Dogz. After the game, everyone devours the chicken nuggets provided by James and Leah while awaiting the Timz Dogz. Jonathan’s Chicken Pasta was a big hit too. We watched and cheered as Tennessee lost to UF and then as USC lost to Washington! WHOOOO Bama will move up to # 3. Steve and Amy decided to stay and watch the AU – West Virginia game and Georgia- Arkansas game. A terrific day in Tuscaloosa.  FYI - it rained and rained and it wasn't really HOT but we still went through 109 lbs of ICE in the ice chest to keep the drinks cold!

Sunday morning, despite the rain, yes, it rained during the night, cleanup was not bad. Tim went for breakfast and newspapers. Filling with fuel, water and dumping all went well. A successful morning. Five more sleeps and we will be back! RTR
